Rebecca Othen is a contemporary artist based in Oxfordshire, working with a distinctive fingerprint painting technique.She developed this process during her Bachelor of Arts in Cardiff, using ink and carefully cut paper to guide each individual mark. The technique was first inspired by her pet dog Murphy, a therapy dog in a secondary school at the time, whose calming presence informed the meditative quality of her work.Rebecca’s practice currently focuses on pet portraits, reflecting themes of comfort, connection, and the subtle beauty of imperfection. Each piece is built up mark by mark, creating images that reveal texture and individuality up close, yet appear cohesive and whole from a distance.She has completed several private commissions and is developing her first body of personal work. Looking ahead, she plans to expand into new subject areas while continuing to explore how perception shifts between close and distant viewing.
